Configuration of Displays

New to this? What the instructions mean

Click means select with your mouse (or tap on a touch screen). Row menu means the small actions menu beside an item in a list. Drop-down means a box you click to choose an option. Drag and drop means hold the mouse button on an item, move it, then release.

CMS is your online screen-control system. Display means a managed screen. Publish makes a layout ready to play. Schedule chooses the screens and times.

Some buttons depend on your version and permissions. If your screen looks different, ask your administrator or get help.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

Give a screen a recognisable name and check whether it has received your content.

Before you start

Choose the correct display before making changes. For example, use a location-based name such as Leeds – Reception.

Name the screen

  1. Open Displays.
  2. Find the screen you want to update.
  3. Open its actions menu and click Edit.
  4. Enter a clear display name.
  5. Save your change using the form’s save control.

Understand the download status

  1. Find the display in the Displays list.
  2. Look at its Status column.
  3. A cloud icon indicates the player has not logged in and content is waiting to download.
  4. A cross indicates the download is not yet complete.
  5. A tick indicates the player is up to date.
Optional: choose a backup design

In the display’s Edit form, you can choose a Default Layout. This is a fallback when nothing is scheduled or scheduled content cannot play. Keep it simple. Ask your administrator if you are unsure which layout to use.

How to check it worked

The display has a name you recognise and, after collecting content, its download status becomes up to date. Check the screen itself too.

Something not working?

If the player has not connected, check its power and network connection first. Button names can vary between versions. If you cannot see an option, check with your administrator. For a screen that has not updated, follow the troubleshooting checklist.

More detail, screenshots and advanced options

Once Displays have been connected, they are configured and managed from the Displays page inside the CMS.

In order to start showing content, Displays must be Authorised with the CMS. Check the Displays grid to make sure the right Displays are showing as Authorised, as a first step.

  • Give the Display a friendly name for easier identification within the CMS by using the Edit option from the row menu.

Now is a great time to assign your Display a Default Layout.

  • Scroll down the form to select a Layout to use as the default .This Layout will be shown when there is no content scheduled or an issue arises that prevents scheduled content from showing on your Display.

When creating your own Default Layouts, keep in mind that designs should be kept simple, avoiding any complex media and web content!

  • Click on the Details tab to provide further information about your Display.

  • Setting the Latitude and Longitude of the Display, will show its location on the map view.

The Displays map can be viewed by clicking the icon at the top right of the grid.

  • Set Timezones to ensure that content is shown at the right time for your Display location.

Each Display is assigned a default profile which will automatically apply its settings to all Displays of the same type. For example, you edit the Collect Interval for your Android Display Profile. Once saved, the new collection time will be applied to all Displays assigned this as a Display Profile.

Display Setting Profiles can be customised for automatic management and configuration of your Display Network.
